My grandma was a kind woman. She wasn't perfect, but I always felt loved in her presence. She was a retired kindergarten teacher, and was still working when I was a kid. I have so many happy memories sitting at her kitchen table, and I'm going to carry those with me for the rest of my life. She was also proof that anyone who claims that you get more conservative as you get older is full of shit, because she certainly didn't.
I think it's interesting how the body processes grief sometimes. I don't know that I'll cry, but over the past month, knowing this was coming, I've felt a tension in my gut. Now that she's passed, instead of relief that tension is replaced by a sense of emptiness. That something is missing that should still be there. Something has been taken away, and I feel it.
Of course, as I wrote that, I immediately started crying... so I guess my body processes grief in pretty ordinary ways too.
I wanted to come up with something profound linking this to Beltane, which we sit in the middle of right now, but it just seemed hackneyed. Like I was trying to dig out some greater significance when the truth is death comes whenever it wants. The only predictable thing about it is that it's the end of all of our journeys. I hope that when I pass I'm so lucky to have lived such a long life with people that I love around me in my final days.
For the record, I will be fine. I just needed to get these words out while they were still in my head. I don't have some rousing conclusion or deep insight to tack on here at the end, just that gut feeling that something is missing.
Because it is.
the friendzone does exist Trae. You said so in your nerd dating panel. Plus I can prove it exists.
Actually, I used to quite specifically say the friendzone ISN’T real in that panel. Clearly you weren’t listening.
Because if you’re hanging out with someone just because you want to sleep with them, you aren’t really their friend. I could go on about this for paragraphs about emotional manipulation and passive aggressive behavior, but all of that is moot in this case.
Because Ruth hates Harry, making his use of the term not really work on any level in the first place.
Thank you, Trae, for your comments there. I find the entire concept of the “friendzone” to be offensive. I exist as a person, not a sexbot. Heck, I’m asexual to start with!
…then you have more in common with Ruth than you know.
I think the FriendZone exists, but is far far less common than popular media thinks. For the reasons already mentioned.
Regardless, the term does -not- apply here… he seemed like a potentially smart guy just a little while ago.
The friendzone doesn’t exist the way most people who say that term mean.
As for Harry, this is the first time we’ve seen him without Jerry keeping him in check.
I want to cosplay as Harry!
…actually, I just want a shirt like that.
Closest I can find : http://www.cafepress.com/mf/68333456/star-trek-terran-empire-logo_tshirt?productId=651149063
(Here’s another one that’s pretty close, although it uses the Enterprise era Terran Empire logo instead of the TOS era Terran empire logo: http://www.cafepress.com/mf/88121453/star-trek-mirror-universe-emblem-black_tshirt
Thanks, Trae!
(After he went through the trouble of finding those links, I don’t have the heart to tell him I meant the other shirt? What’s the term? Overshirt? Flaming Hawaiian shirt? Alohaaaah Eruption! shirt?)
Wasn’t so much “trouble” as “five seconds on google” 😛
Hmmm… the overshirt.
Y’know, I just went to google because I assumed it would be easy to find a similar orangish-red bowling shirt with flames on it… but wow. I haven’t found anything similar so far.
